Harris Allen
Harris Allen is a current first year at Harvard, with a planned concentration in molecular and cellular biology and a secondary in global health and health policy. He grew up in Westchester, New York but now lives in Durham, North Carolina. He loves biology, and participates in Cancer research over the summer and eventually hopes to go to medical school and become a surgical oncologist in the future. Outside of writing for Brevia, he is a member of the Immunology Club and a tutor for the philip brooks house association organization known as Chance. |
Kemi Ashing-Giwa
Kemi is a sophomore concentrating in Integrative Biology with a secondary in Astrophysics. Originally from California, she hopes to pursue a career studying astrobiology. Outside of Brevia, she serves as a Director in the Harvard College Undergraduate Research Association (HCURA), and conducts research on the developmental basis of evolutionary change. In her free time, Kemi enjoys reading, writing, doodling, and hanging out with friends. |
Armeen Barghi
Armeen Barghi is a junior at Mather House studying Human Developmental and Regenerative Biology with a secondary in Global Health and Health Policy. Born and raised in Alabama, Barghi enjoys playing table tennis, badminton, and fishing with friends. Barghi has written and edited multimedia for Brevia since freshman year and enjoys working with new and old groups of writers every year. |
Gabriela Escalante
Gabby is a junior in Adams House studying Human Developmental and Regenerative Biology, with a secondary in Economics. Her current research focus is cardiomyocyte maturation and mitochondrial dynamics, but she enjoys learning about research in all fields of science. When she is not editing Brevia articles, she works as an emergency medical technician and CPR instructor for Harvard's student-run emergency medical service, CrimsonEMS. In her free time, she dances and plays classical piano. |
Abigail Miller
Abby Miller is a sophomore in Eliot House. She was born in Ghana and lives in West Haven, CT. At Harvard, she studies Classics and Molecular and Cellular Biology. She is interested in Medical etymology and Ancient Medicine in both the Greek and Roman cultures. At home, she has a Chihuahua/Fox-terrier named Andy. She loves puzzling and baking, and her favorite TV shows include The Office and The Great British Bake Off. |
Tasnia Nabil
Tasnia is a second year student studying medical biophysics at Western University in London, ON. She is very passionate about interdisciplinary research in the biomedical engineering field to use technology to progress healthcare in unimaginable ways. She aspires to be a clinician scientist in the future. She is also very passionate about youth involvement in STEM. |
Eric Costa Pimentel
Eric Costa Pimentel is a junior at the University of Illinois - Chicago based in Chicago, IL. There, he studies Finance with a minor in Managerial Skills within the College of Business Administration as well as the prestigious Business Scholars program. He enjoys research and exploring pertinent topics relating to business, especially incorporating certain practices throughout healthcare delivery models. He also enjoys writing and communicating relevant ideas to interested readers. He plans on attending Law School in a major city following his undergraduate studies in hopes to assist those less fortunate running small businesses to experience better economic growth and equal opportunities. |
Geela Margo Ramos
Geela is a first-year at the University of Central Florida, studying Computer Science and Cognitive Science. Beyond being a full-time student, she works for the Department of Defense and holds a part-time research assistant position at UCF’s Institute of Simulation and Training. Her passions include mental health advocacy and STEM education for K-12 students. Her dream is to eventually build the world’s first Baymax for mental health diagnosis and treatment. However, outside of academics, you can find her either at taekwondo, napping, or going on food adventures! |
Andrea Rivera
Andrea Rivera is a sophomore at Harvard College concentrating in Statistics with a secondary in Global Health and Health Policy. Her research interests lie in the intersection between biostatistics and public health, studying statistical methods and mathematical models to predict the spread of a disease among populations. She is also a writer for both the Harvard Undergraduate Research Journal and the Harvard Science Review and the Director of Content of Raise Uganda Now, a non-profit organization run by university students who are dedicated to providing a home, family, and education to 53 children in rural Uganda. |
Marissa Sumathipala
Marissa is a junior studying Computational Neuroscience with a secondary in Psychology. She has previously conducted both wet-lab and computational biology research and combines both in her current research on large scale sequencing of synapses. Outside of Brevia, Marissa is president of the Harvard Figure Skating Club and a start-up founder in the Harvard i-Lab Venture Incubation Program. In her free time, Marissa loves spending time outdoors, baking, and reading. |
Isabella Trasolini
Isabella Trasolini is a first-year at Harvard who is interested in studying neuroscience and global health. She loves to think about medicine from a social perspective (e.g. attitudes toward mental illness and access to neurosurgery), and she hopes to become a physician in the future. Currently, she is a member of the Harvard Society for Mind, Brain, and Behavior and the Macklis lab, where she conducts research on the genes involved in neural development. Outside of class, she enjoys running long-distance, teaching science lessons at elementary schools through ExperiMentors, volunteering at retirement homes through Alzheimer's Buddies, and writing about medicine. |
Lara van Rooyen
Lara van Rooyen is a first year at Harvard from a small coastal town in South Africa. She is slowly learning to come to terms with the fact that she has to switch from outdoor running to doing workouts in the gym during the brutal New England winter. On the upside, the cold weather is perfect for snuggling up with a good book! She is planning on concentrating in Molecular and Cellular Biology, with a secondary in anything from Computer Science, to Linguistics, to Global Health. |
Hilina B Woldemichael
Hilina is a junior living in Quincy house concentrating in MCB. She is particularly interested in the biological and chemical mechanisms with which humans and bacteria communicate as well as the extent to which they have an influence on our interaction with the outside environment. In her free time, she loves playing board games and watching baking competition shows--the Great British Baking Show is her absolute favorite. She also loves to cook and the few times she gets access to a kitchen she tries to make something new. |
