Editors' Note
As humans, we are creatures of the mind. Thoughts bolt across our synapses, and ideas continuously flicker in and out of existence. Fickle and transient, our mental propensities provide a stark contrast to the unyielding reality surrounding us. Outside our heads, we are confronted with the concrete objectivity of matter: the external definite that composes what is.
Research bridges these two realms, allowing us to couple the abstract with the tangible. In this issue, you will learn how sleep impacts cognitive decline and the perils of performing surgery on our most vital organ. As these and other ideas take form, we hope that you will find yourself thinking differently about research. To some, what once appeared nebulous may suddenly seem approachable.
With that, we invite you to join us as we explore the interplay between the postulate and the palpable. Turn the page and watch as we transform what is in our minds into something that truly matters.
